About Our Teams

In order to motivate students involvement in STEM fields, Beyer High School supports three robotics teams. These teams work after-school building and programming robots which compete in regional events. Two of the teams compete in the First Technical Challenge (FTC) and a third in the First Robotics Challenge (FRC) sponsored by USFirst.org.  Our FRC team is open to all area high school students. We currently have students from Beyer, Big Valley, and Riverbank High Schools.
The teams are helped by a group of dedicated volunteer mentors who are parents and community members.

FTC - First Technical Challenge Teams
The Platinum Patriots #4157 & The Titanium Patriots #5211

Following a sports model, FIRST® Tech Challenge teams (10+ members) design, build, program, and operate robots of their own design to play a floor game in an alliance format. Guided by adult Coaches and Mentors, students develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles, while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and sharing ideas.
Patriot Robotics FTC teams generally compete in two FTC Challenges in the Fall.
The teams had a successful 2018 season, with the Plasma Patriots taking 2nd place at the Alameda Qualifiers and the Control Award at the Fresno Qualifiers. The Titanium Patriots won the Connect Award at the Fresno Qualifiers.

FRC - First Robotics Challenge Team
The Iron Patriots #4135

Under strict rules, limited resources, and the guidance of volunteer mentors including engineers, teachers, business professionals, parents, alumni and more, teams of 25+ students have just six weeks to build and program robots to perform challenging tasks against a field of competitors.
The FRC build season runs from January through February and the Patriot Robotics team competes in two FRC Challenges in the Spring.
The Iron Patriots were on the second place alliance in 2019 at the Central Valley Regional and also won the Safety Award.
