Patriot Robotics Summer Camp

2020 Camp

If you have already registered, the camp schedule and resources are here https://2020steamcamp.webflow.io/

The 2020 distance learning Robotics Camp will be held through zoom meetings from July 6-10 and July 13-17.

Over these two weeks, students entering grades 4th-6th will be introduced to robotics design, building, and programming as they build a robot from a LEGO NXT kit to complete challenges involving different sensors included in the kit.

Where: Online!

Who is this for?: Students entering grades 4 through 6. Multiple children in the same household can sign up and work together with the same kit.

When: July 6-10 and July 13-17.  This is one session spanning both weeks. High School student counselors will lead live zoom sessions each morning and afternoon. The zoom meetings will be recorded and posted for viewing if the participant can not attend the live meeting.  The camp leaders will be available throughout the week on email for questions and assistance outside of meeting times.
Kits need to be picked up at Beyer High School July 1st and 2nd, 9am-2pm and returned after camp ends (date to be announced)

What do I need?: Participants do not need any experience. You will need internet connectivity, a computer or laptop that can download software, and has a USB port. Most school issued devices will not work as you can not download software.

What does the camp provide?: Each registered household will receive a Lego Mindstorms kit and all materials needed for the camp.  A parent must agree to cover the cost of any lost or misplaced parts.

Who is running the camp?: The camp is led by high school students in the Patriot Robotics program based out of Beyer High School. The students are under the supervision of Robotics and Math teachers Heidi Pagani and Charity Loche.

Schedule: Week 1: Follow along with the camp counselors to build and program your robot. By the end of the week the participants will be adding sensors to their robots. Week 2: Participants will work on finishing touches and will be introduced to the final challenge. They will have a challenge to complete by the end of the week and will share their finished robots on zoom and with photos and videos.

Cost: The cost is $35 per household and includes borrowing the kit for 2 weeks, a certificate of completion and a few Patriot Robotics swag items upon kit return.

Registration for 2020 is now closed.
